Iron or rusty water is usually created when ground water passes through iron-bearing rocks. It’s important to know, however, that there is more than one type of iron predicament. Generally, a water-softening device will only remove the “ferrous” or Fe2 type of iron. Unfortunately, once the iron has become bonded with any organics in the water, this type of device will have virtually no effect. Nelson Water offers a tailored solution, which will typically include a chemical injection system, followed by a retention tank, a turbidity filter and lastly a carbon filter to eliminate any iron and or sulfur bacteria content from your rural well water supply. This suite of tools will result in odor and bacteria free water that actually tastes good with no chlorine residual or aftertaste. The only way to implement the correct solution is through the testing of the actual water, which must be done at the site, because once the water becomes exposed to air, it will change form. pH is one of the most critical elements in controlling the efficacy of the equipment used for iron reduction.
Turning water yellowish and leaving stains in tubs, sinks and toilets Tannins can be problematic. The worst part is that they bind up organically with iron making the removal process more complicated. Nelson Water offers a customized solution, which will typically include a chemical injection system using a coagulant that brings together the dissolved organic matter into clumps that can be filtered out, followed by a retention tank, a turbidity filter and lastly a carbon filter to eliminate any leftover taste from your rural well water supply. When the tannin is not bound up with iron, Nelson Water uses an ion exchange system similar to a softener. In this case, exchanging the tannin ions for sodium, rather than calcium or magnesium ions.
That recognizable rotten egg odor in your water is due to hydrogen sulfide gas. This is a common problem in many of the rural wells throughout the Carp area. When hydrogen sulfide is dissolved in water, it causes that unpleasant rotten egg odor and cloudiness. Additionally, gasses dissolved in your water can be damaging to your plumbing system, as they cause excess wear and tear on washers, valves and seats and often cause severe corrosion to the actual copper pipes and brass fittings.
